Featuring half-timbered buildings, almost complete city walls and a wealth of Roman heritage, beautiful Chester sits by the border with Wales. The southernmost gate of the walls overlooks the River Dee, and the road leading north is one of 4 in the city to follow the original Roman roads. To the east, the Roman Gardens include a reconstructed underfloor heating system. Over the river in the suburb of Handbridge is a 2nd-century shrine to Minerva, and an informative display in the Grosvenor Museum provides the background to all this heritage.

In the west is Chester Racecourse and nearby are the medieval castle remains. More medieval buildings line the cobbled city centre streets. Some of these are The Rows, black-and-white timbered buildings housing 2 levels of shops. Other shopping options are the indoor market by the cathedral, and the Cheshire Oaks Outlet Village in Ellesmere Port to the north. Error: Please enter a valid email address.

The city walls started off our first day; from there we had a literal overview of the best sites in Chester. Informative as well; found out how the Roodee got its name. We're also interested in all historical periods. Again the info plaques along the Wall gave answers to many outstanding questions. We love canal history and architecture. That was fascinating from the views from the Walls.

Ate at Cote Brasserie on Bridge Street; a French restaurant which we hoped would live up to its cuisine. It did so and more! The food, service and ambience were excellent; even had French clients who seemed to really enjoy the evening. Chester is a wonderful city to visit.

The city centre is home to the cathedral which is free to visit although donations are obviously expected. The shops are varied and all located within a short walking distance. There are lots of places to eat and drink with prices to meet everyone's pocket. For exercise, walk the walls of the city and see the landmark clock. There is also Cheshire Oaks full of designer shops offering great discounts, as well as a great place to eat or visit the cinema.

We stayed at the mill hotel for 3nights. A shoppers paradise of all the famous high street store's and many independent shops. The wall is not to be missed. We also visited Cheshire Oaks a couple of times and all the family enjoyed the setting and visiting the stores and coffee shops great donuts.

Also visited TGI Friday and had great meals on 2 days. The whole area of Chester is a nice place to visit for all ages. Old world and everything is so easy to visit.

Such a diverse town high end through to local Roman baths a walk away and beautiful gardens Walk the old wall. Get the hop on hop off bus and see the broader city. Chester is an amazing place. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to shopping, eating, drinking and sightseeing. We didnt have enough time to explore so we will be back again to see more of this beautiful city in the future. Chester centre is a min walk or a very cheap taxi ride. I cannot recommend this hotel enough. Will definitely be returning. The hotel also put on early breakfast for anyone staying there who was running the race an hour before the normal serving times. The bed s were very comfy. The hotel has parking too.

Staff were very polite and friendly, at reception, the health club and breakfast. The location was ideal Hotel was fantastic as we're the staff The room was spacious with modern features.. I was very impressed with everything about it The property is in a good location of Chester on the main road that continues into town.

So easy walking into town. There are pubs and other restaurants within walking distance for convenience. It was clean and well appointed for a longer stay. Does have a washing machine and line outside for drying no clothes dryer. The hotel is newly refurbished and very clean and pleasant. The staff work hard to make it nice. Our room was spacious.

The dinner at the restaurant was the best we'd had in our week driving trip. Lots of vegetable dishes with delicious versions of English. It is just outside Chester center with free parking. Loved the view and no disappointed with the room. We stayed in the Ascot Penthouse which is the best room in the hotel.

Kitchen well equipt and an extremely comfortable lounge and bedroom. The views across the racecourse is fantastic and so close to the city of Chester. Fabulous 2 days. It was also incredibly affordable especially as the price included a cooked breakfast buffet. Had a great stay, the staff were polite and friendly! The rooms are clean and comfortable and it's in a great location for the centre of Chester less then a 10 min walk I'd happily stay again!
