My local still had them on the shelf at the normal price. Scanned through at your price!!! Which AR app is this? I only knew about the Hidden Side app which didn't appear to work with Boost? Built it with my boy last year - it was a decent jump in complexity from the regular sets, without being too difficult. If you have an old android phone going unused, put the Lego AR app on it - it adds an extra dimension to playing with the things he builds my boy is Autistic, so he rarely plays with the things he creates. He really enjoys the building following instructions, finding pieces, figuring out how it all goes together, then the deconstruction.
The AR app allows him to enjoy what he's built a little longer, before breaking it back up and creating something else. With the exception of the Nintendo Switch, I'd say this is the best value Xmas gift he's ever had. Yeah only making it usable on the latest top of the line phones and tablets was a huge mistake.
Its unfortunate as the sets and the idea are really cool.

Would be a shame if it's not a success because of the app compatibility. You can't jump back in a time machine of course but Black Friday isn't far away so expect to see some bargains floating about then. Aside the fact we are nearing the end of the generation I wouldn't touch any console pre black Friday. Like I say loads of people on here got one. It was that price for ages. To address a couple of points: Is Lego expensive? Well, if you buy at RRP then yes, the prices are expensive, but the sheer quantity of deals on this site go to show that it's not difficult to buy Lego at considerably less than RRP.
Well, they are a business, they know their target market, and they set their prices at what they think is an optimum level. If the prices were too high, they wouldn't get many sales and would suffer - similarly if they were too low, they wouldn't make much profit and would suffer.
The fact that they are the biggest toy company in the world would suggest that, from a business perspective, their prices are just right. A consumer complaining that they are too expensive is just saying they can't afford them - we could all walk around complaining that Ferrari's are too expensive but instead, we just accept that they are out of our budget - why can't we accept the same for Lego?
Trying to say sets were cheaper back in the day doesn't hold up that well to be honest; on the surface it may seem that way but wages and earnings were far less as well. Is Lego expensive? Yes of course, but for the most part, there's good reasons and most of them are justified. Licensing, research, planning, development, testing and prototyping; for example, the Creator Expert version of the blue Ford Mustang started off a lot smaller and went through seven versions before settling for the final design, while getting bigger each time. And key people from Ford that they partnered with had to be happy with the proposed prototypes as well as the final design, otherwise the project for the set gets scrapped.

Im an investor collector but I do worry that lego will mess it all up. Redoing old sets bugs me, and like you say, the price of some of these sets is far too high. I really doubt that will go up in price, but I do quite like it I've ordered it as Empire is my favourite Star Wars movie and I like the sets that set certain scenes. It would have loads of play potential for kids, if they knew the story being told, which they might not. Its annoying when you search for a specific figure and you type in say "Lego Deadpool minifigure" and the first 20 are always "custom" even though they label them as generic brand they show before official ones.
