If you're into more adventur-ey type games, it can be really useful for controlling inventories and things like that, but you can play most games with a regular controller. Even though it's pretty large, I actually find the game pad is pretty comfortable to use as a controller. Of course, you can also get Wii Remotes and Pro Controllers if you find the game pad too unwieldy for game play. I had been told that once before, but you can use several different styles of controllers together to play with friends.
I understand the older console did. That's a little frustrating, but not a huge issue for me. The games are a lot of fun, and the graphics have been great for me. The product arived at a great time but it did not come with the box or what the Wii U deluxe came with when it was released in I had to purchase a Wii Sensor bar and have to find the remaining parts that came with the Wii U deluxe edition. It is the least user-friendly console that I've ever used, and at the same time makes me wonder how a child is supposed to use this.
Trying to move data from my Wii to my Wii U is proving to be impossible. The GamePad hinders the abilities of this console. I could continue but to keep it short I'll just say the PS3 and the Xbox are a better console choice and they were outdated by the time this console was released, pitiful. I literally can not move the gamepad more than a few inches from the console or else it loses connection. I cut my losses and bought a brand new Wii u and it works perfectly. I tested the new Wii u with the others gamepad and it worked fine.
