It is located in the historic Ames Building, which was often ranked the tallest building in Boston when it was first built in Located right near Beacon Hill and Faneuil Hall, gives you and your family the optimum location for your visit. Much like its sister hotels in the the Morgans group, the rooms are bright and airy, and in the style of modern minimalist.
Smack dab in downtown Boston, it's conveniently located near most everything! It's a nondescript building you could easily walk past, but the rooms are comfortable, windows curtains can be either thrown wide open or blacked out, and the bathrooms are nice and big. Great shower. Ames Morgan. Enjoyed everything about this hotel. From the low comfortable bed, heated towel racks, wood floors, bright breakfast area to the friendly staff.
Will stay again. This hotel was opened only a few years ago; before that the building was office headquarters for the Ames company and it feels like they tried a little too hard to make the place modern and different. My biggest problem was with the design of the rooms. The bathroom walls are all uncomfortably sleek and black and the shower is a clear glass booth with a curtain that can only be controlled by the person in the bedroom!
Some might appreciate touches like this. I found them fun to look at but impractical. The Ames is somewhat of an avant-garde hotel with artwork adorning the walls and a hip bar downstairs serving drinks to a fun crowd regularly. I personally really loved the restaurant, and I ordered the lobster ravioli special, definitely a great blend of Boston's seafood roots and the Italian influence in the city.
The service was also impeccable. The only thing that keeps me from giving this a 5 star rating is that the bathroom amenities were few and far between, not to mention the very complex shower we nearly flooded the room with the showerhead! Otherwise, a very enjoyable stay. I don't think I've ever come to a city to give out so many five star reviews as I have for Boston. Despite it's high price tag on its own website, the Ames Hotel is quite reasonably booked through Orbitz or other travel sites to find deals. My friends have even had great luck on priceline by naming their own price and getting this place.
I was happy to have gotten a cheaper reservation through Orbitz and the website prepped me for staying at Ames. The rooms were a lot smaller than I had imagined but by not means so small that you cannot move about freely or enjoy yourself.

I really liked the layout of the room but the fact that the blinds don't block out the morning light is problematic I had only seen this once before at Ace Hotel in Palm Springs so it made me feel a little bit more homely staying here. The front desk is exceptionally helpful as is the entire staff since they pretty much gave us everything we needed almost immediately. I'm sure it helps that there aren't a whole lot of rooms in this boutique hotel, but to ask for a new remote ours ran out of batteries and get it within 2 minutes of putting down the phone.
Pretty good! The bed was very comfortable, the hotel was clean, well designed and the bar downstairs was great for late night lounging since you don't want to be out past am and not be able to ride the MBTA back.
